The Louvre and the Right Bank
Half a day goes to the Louvre, which covers a few wings rather than the whole museum. The Tuileries then lead out to Place de la Concorde, where the Champs-Élysées runs straight to the Arc de Triomphe — two kilometres, but it is the avenue people come for. The evening is the Eiffel Tower.

Île de la Cité and the Latin Quarter
A day on the island and the Left Bank. Notre-Dame and the Sainte-Chapelle stand next to each other, then the climb to the Panthéon and the Luxembourg Gardens — student Paris, with bookshops and cafés. It ends at the Orsay: impressionists in a former railway station, open later than most museums.

The Marais and Montmartre
The morning is the Pompidou and the Marais: Place des Vosges, narrow streets, galleries. After lunch, a metro ride to Montmartre for the Sacré-Cœur and Place du Tertre. The hill looks out over the whole city, so it is better late in the day.
