The Prado and the Retiro
The Prado takes half a day, and the Retiro starts right behind it, which makes for a good order. From there it is five minutes to the Puerta de Alcalá and the Cibeles fountain — postcard Madrid.

Royal Madrid
From the Puerta del Sol through Plaza Mayor and the San Miguel market to the Royal Palace: a kilometre and a half for a whole day, but a dense one. The palace and the Almudena cathedral stand together and deserve the afternoon.

Museums and the evening city
The Reina Sofía with Guernica, then the Thyssen — with the Prado these three are the golden triangle. The evening goes to Gran Vía and the Debod temple: an Egyptian temple on a hill where the city watches the sunset.
